A common example is one where a patient goes to the emergency room after feeling sick for several days. The patient was on coumadin, a blood thinner. The emergency room doctors did not know the patient was taking this medication and started the patient on an antibiotic that interacted with the blood thinner. In the end, the patient ended up in the hospital with a major bleed in his stomach. The prescribed antibiotic inhibited the metabolism of the blood thinner and the patient had high levels of the blood thinner in his blood. Most likely, the doctor would not have prescribed the antibiotic had he known the patient was on a blood thinner. The CapsulCard™ can help prevent medication errors such as these. Positive Feedback - Reducing Medication Errors"...I think the CapsulCard would have helped when one of our close family friends was admitted to the hospital. He didn’t have one of the cards. A severe drug interaction occurred between one of his home medicines and a medicine the emergency room doctor prescribed. He ended up being readmitted to the hospital for over a week! The card would have provided the emergency room doctors with a medication list of all the medications he was taking at home. They probably wouldn’t have prescribed the same medication if they know this information..." P.N. - Florida"...I wish I had something like the CapsulCard when I first started taking all of these medications and seeing so many different doctors..." M.B. - California |
